FYI...to get the tilt level off, you just pull it straight down and it pops of the metal lever. Wiring harness and switch took about 3 hours to do with splicing and soldering harness back together. Looks like if you use the column tilt alot (which I do) it pulls on the top of the switch...
I own 2 Dodge 2500's an 94 5 speed and an 03 6 speed. The 94 has 570 K, the 03 has 210 K. Both trucks had the front axle u-joints go at 160 K, replaced with jobber greaseable joints along with upper and lower ball joints also greaseable. The 94 had the clutch fail at 225 K because of the pilot...
My 94 had a electrical problem in the column that cost over 700.00 bucks to fix and now the 03 has the same problem. There is a heavy red wire that plugs into the ignition switch that has melted and burnt the connector on the harness as well as the ignition switch. Symptoms were power windows...
Your problem is the u-joints, my 03 did the same thing ended up being the joint at the rear end that was causing the problem. It looked OK and was'nt loose when shook but it was binding up.
