Ok this is getting monotonous, but one more problem has arose today. :fan:
Noticed a good fuel smell tonight and discovered both fuel tanks are now leaking like seives. -cuss
Looks like the ole tank strap leak.. :frustrate
I am out of major repair funds at this time and am wondering about using JB weld to repair the wear spots and then double up the rubber between. The rubber I have is what I use to build fish/water ponds with and is pretty resilient. Or should I chance it and try to swap tanks off the Beef to Goldie. Will they interchange between 4x4 vs 4x2? Just at the edge of stirr crazy and too little time left if they won't work or the straps are gonna puke on me.

the is a special two part epoxy stick that is designed for fuel tank repair. It is about like clay, just mix the two together and apply. It will get hard in a few minutes.

I used JB Weld on a 3-wheeler tank many years ago and it worked great. Nary another problem!

Ron, I've got two good tanks if you want them. I could bring them to the IDI Weekend, and we can have a tank install clinic. ;Sweet

Ron,

if the tanks from the Beast are good then take them out and clean them up real good and give them a good once over. You'll need the fueline disconnect tool to get the lines apart at the sending unit. I have the NAPA part number at home. Give the tanks a good coat of tank paint (galvenizing?)or whatever and throw those in. I'm not sure if the tanks are interchangeable but I don't see why not. I'm thinking only what holds the tanks in are what's different. I have skidplates on mine some of the trucks didn't. When I replaced my rear tank I got one from a PSD from the wrecking yard for $60. Just inspect them thoroughly.

Oh, yes put some rubber belting of some kind between the tank and anything metal that touches it. It doesn't have to be very thick. I used some contact cement to hold the rubber on. While the tank's out, cement it to the tank.

Ive had so many tanks out here lately its not even funny but its really pretty easy after your fourth or fifth time the last time I undercaoted the tank to help it a little I don't see any problem with your tank swap as far as fitment but then again all I have worked on are 4x4's

Oh and by the way I forgot to ask but why would you need a speacial tool to disconnect the fuel lines I thought that was only on the trucks newer then ours mine just has the pastic clip you pull out the the line comes off my PSD has the high preassure fittings that need the speacial tool

All I know is that I needed the tool for my '94.

I think late '93 ford started using the "spring ring" type retainers and also went back to using metal lines. I stripped a burn job a few months ago and found the later style tanks and feul lines in it even though it was an IDI.

I just did the fuel pump on our 98' Windstar. It had the plastic clips.

I guess it just depends on how Ford was feeling that day on what style fuel connections you have cookoo I guess when giving advice on our fords we'll have to state a disclaimer "This is how it is on my Ford this is not however the way it may be on yours"

SURE now you tell me. Thanks but I could just see it now, 30 hillbilly butcracks under Goldie the Gay wondering "WATCHYA DOIN?" LOL
Got an easy drywall job to finish and found out last night that instead of an attaboy it turned cash. Went and got a heck of a deal on 2 new tanks today for $200.00 and they include all of the straps, locking collars and the rest of the goodies to go along.
Mel, I am not sure if they would have made it that far as the rear one basically drained 1/4 tank overnight and the front sending unit doesn't work and takes 30 minutes to fill when needing 18 gallons. Not too big on guestimating fuel consumption with the load Goldie is gonna be running.
I did find the patch kit as spoken about but the parts guru said at the strap area it might get ya by for awhile pending on my driving habits. cookoo
For the price he gave me on the tanks, I think I did ok
Going to change them out right now as drill is 0730 hrs tomorrow and no weekend time left.

Ron
