It came up when a guy was asking about this truck. This one is a M H conversion, either a D70 or D80. I'm leaning towards the 70, haven't heard of too many 80's up front. Here's a quote from the thread

" I talked to the guy selling this truck (they buy em from auctions) and he said When davey bought these new from ford, they taken them over to Marmon/Herrington for the Conversion...

The front axel is like a dana 70 or 80, with MH knuckles and ring and pinion center, just big, way bigger than a dana 60...he told me if you need disc's for this front axle there over $300 a pop per side..ouch!!"

PG&E blue.....how I love those colors as a TT driver :D
the axle in question is a M-H in-house design.

Question, Do you think it front leafs are the factory 2x4 leafs or 1 ton 4x4 ?
I am converting a 2x4 to 4x4 and was thinking about reusing the factory front leafs.
thanks Jason

are you talking about F450/F-superduty or F250/350?
the leafs pictured in the PG&E F450 is not stock. there is an extra leaf in the spring pack. it also looks like it's a replacement from OEM.

Any idea how many of these were made and from what years? Also GVW/axle capacity. I ASSume they used a Dana 80 in the rear of these?

I've only ever seen 2 F Super Dutys and I don't recall if they were 4x4s. One was a brick nose and the other OBS.

They weren't offered from the factory, they had to go to an aftermarket company and setup with a 4x4 front end. The f-superduty's used a stupid transmission mounted park brake so i don't know what they did with that when the t case was mounted, but the front axle was whatever the up-fitter saw fit to put under it, i think it was said above that it's a m-h designed/built/forgot about no parts available axle. I'm not sure but i was told once that the f-superdutys used a dana 110, but I couldn't say for sure on that.
