With the new prices on fuel we have to start saving money for the days to come and some have come up with diferent methods that might seem extreme but sure do work.

Here is Charlie's way, it is not an idi but it really so save some money :rotflmao . Now i don't know how fast it pulls the hills :rotflmao :rotflmao

ok, now seriously, I had a geat time at charlie's property and there is lots of space to have fun over there ;Sweet

EZ, I'm planning on using my Bronco when it's done, as a platform for alternative fuels. At the very least, I'm going to stop throwing my used motor oil away. I think WVO and that kind of stuff is the way to go.

I've got a tank full of WMO thinned 10 to 1 with mineral spirits and filtered to 5 microns. I'm still figuring out if I want to use any WMO, or go totall WVO.

Well if we plan to go on trips we HAVE to do something about this. For some of us who dont use the vehicles as much might not make a diference but for anyon that uses it for towing or daily driver it really does. I can believe i was happy I found gas for $2.99 today and diesel is 2.97.

Mel if I was interested to go and help you with the bronco project now I really want to go and follow the wvo on that one  . It is some work at first to get al ready to go but one you have it going forward it makes easier to drive around.

Here's my answer to saving fuel :) I'm also starting to run Bio-D (in the Benz; will start in the truck next time she needs fuel); starting at a 50/50 mix and slowly ramping up to 100%. I still have to buy it, though; don't have the space to brew my own (same reason I haven't done a straight WVO conversion on both vehicles).

And, as much as Mel will hate me for saying this, I intend to replace the Benz wiht a '99-'03 Jetta TDI wagon when $$ allows...if there was a newer diesel car built in America, I would go that route, but it's hard to argue with a midsize sedan that can out-do one of those joke hybrids in terms of fuel economy and environmental impact ;Sweet

Warden you'll love the TDI. the biggest regret i have is that i got the sedan and not the wagon. too late for me, but at least i got mine when they could be gotten relatively cheap.

i wish there were some more small diesel options but what are you gonna do.

dont let the naysayers sway you either. -Deadhorse
not that you would.

cheers

Well, I just picked up a '86 VW Golf with the diesel, 45mpg going through the rockies in Canada... crusing speed of about 120km/h (when possible)

I am thinking of looking into WVO for the IDI at least, and possibly the Golf.

Funny; that's the exact same regret I have with my Benz! I haven't been over to tdiclub.com as of late due to the drool/"IWANTITIWANTITIWANTIT" factor ;) but when it starts coming closer to time, I'll start terrorizing you and everyone else over there more ;)

I had quite a few naysayers when I got the Benz (the whole "parts are expensive!" crowd), but buying that car's probably the single most intelligent purchase I've ever made to date...and I'm thinking the Jetta will be the same. I just need the $$, and hopefully there'll be a handful of good-shape wagons when the time comes. The PD engine sounds nice from a power standpoint, but I don't like the mileage hit they apparently take...and they beat the '05+ Jetta senseless with the same ugly stick Dodge used on the Durango/Dakota, and wagons will no longer be offered in the U.S. :(

So far I've secured approx 100 gals a month of WVO. The resturants tell me they've been paying to get rid of it, so far it's all been for free. I have drums that I save, heat, store the clean stuff in. I've been running a 50/50 mix so far since early Aug with no side effects(OK grinning ear to ear while sitting in traffic with the smell of BBQ wafting in the windows). I'm trying to set my Dads PSD up so he can have enough fuel to get him to Fl for snowbird season. After that I should have enough fuel to make just about any rad trip without having to stop for fuel.

Cool, thanks 6.9 oiler. Now, do you have to do anything special? Can I just dump wmo into the tank? I can get as much as I want of wmo for free from work. I assume you have to filter it some how. Maybe mix 50/50 diesel/wmo and then run it through a filter before putting into the truck? Or, how about 25% wmo, 25% kerosene, 50% diesel or some combination.

John,
Right now I am cutting a gallon of WMO with diesel to help strain it and them into the tanks it goes. No mixing of K-1 or anything else. ;Sweet
Been in contact with an individual running 10% with no problems and is the same thing he does and has had no problems at all and been running WMO for awhile now. ;Sweet
Even a noticeable power gain has been found with the higher burn temps.
No I have use of the WMO in the shop:D AND save money at the pumps. :moon:

Ron,
If you run a 10% solution of WMO, that would be appx 1.9 gallons per fill-up into each tank (appx 19 gallon tanks). You said you were cutting WMO w/ diesel, what do you do? Mix it 50/50 with diesel and then run it through a filter before putting it into the truck tanks? And do you add it when you fill-up? Here is what I am thinking. You prepare 1.5 gallons of WMO (little less than 10% to start off with) by mixing with 1.5 gallons of diesel. Run the 3 gallons of 50/50 WMO/diesel through a filter ( I'm thinking of a used fuel filter head from a junked 6.9/7.3 and an electric fuel pump) into a clean container. Then take the container to the fuel pumps, pour it into the tank and then fill up. Is this all I have to do? It sound easy and could be a money saver. I'm just a little leary because I just installed a new IP in Jan. and I don't want to damage it in any way. Thanks,
John
