Thought I fixed it but i guess not

SO i just replaced the Ingnition cylinder, and ignition actuator, and i go to start her and she will crank over nice and fast but wont start....

I checked the Fuel system and when I crank it im not getting fuel from the Filter head valve, and i pulled the filter off to check and see if anything was in there and it was only half full... any ideas as to what this could be? I really hope its not my Lift pump going bad

Lift pump man. That is the first place I'd check. If you don't have any fuel leaks anywhere, then its almost definitely the lift pump.

whats the best way to test the lift pump? i cant see any visible leaks anywhere. but i even went and filled the filter up and it still wont start

Its not going to start even with the filter full if the pump isn't pushing anymore fuel into it. No pressure = no start. Only way I can tell you to test it is to crank it and push on the test/bleed port on the filter head. If it doesn't pop any fuel out you got a bad pump, or if you have a filter inline pre lift pump then you have a plugged filter.

You could test the lift pump and see if it is up to *****. Take the core out of the schrader valve on the fuel filter head. Hook up a pressure guage to that valve and crank the engine. It should be 4-6 psi. For volume, you should get 1/3 of a pint minimum with 10 seconds of cranking.

If it is the fuel pump, you can just replace it with an electric pump. If you go with another mechanical be careful. Make sure that the cam is at low position, it is usually necessary to use a mirror and a remote starter switch. Observe the cam through the mounting port and bump the engine around until a one inch wide machine surface is observed. This is low position of the cam. If not installed correctely, it can damage the pump and possible the motor.

Don't forget to purge the air out of the filter by getting someone to spin her over and then push on the little schrader valve till fuel comes out.
If you have an elec pump (like me) just turn on the key and purge it by yourself

In fact if you dont have an elec pump and you can afford getting one, then get one. The manual pumps are not a great idea, because if you ever run out of fuel you'll be cranking till battery is dead.
This dude in my town told me that he has gotten soooo servise calls out into the field because people have ran out of fuel, fueled up, then killed their batteries, trying to get their truck re-started.

He told me to turf the manual one and buy an elec one, so i did and it was one of the best upgrades I ever did to my truck.
He didn't sell them but almost every auto parts store does.

Well I have a Carter 5psi street pump that I was thinking about putting on my chevelle but now I'm thinking it's time to slap it in the truck. And when I cranked it with the valve depressed nothing came out, so imthinking it's time for a pump...

Yeah, that's what I was gonna do, and I'm gonna run it through a toggle switch as kind of a anti theft.

Butmy main concern is will the pump work with diesel? I have the P4070 model, it's setup for 5psi I think, and I know it will work for gas but will the diesel effect it at all? And can someone post a pic of how they have theirs setup please? Thanks

I know there are already a few votes for the Electric pump but id like to hear a few more opinions and thoughts before i do anything. Because right now im trying to get my truck to be as reliable as it can possible be, mostly because after having to drive the Chevelle for 5 years as a daily driver the rattles and really loud exhaust and no heater or A/c and so on and so forth get old after a while, and i cant afford a new car so i want the truck to be nice a comfortable and relaible.

I have mine mounted on the frame rail right after the tank and i run a procomp pump
(check fleabay). I put it in there about 2 years ago and have had no problems so far. The only downside to having an electric pump is the noise that it makes. The plus side is when you have to bleed the fuel system you dont kill your batteries or starter and you can do it with one person. I have mine hooked to a relay that gets its switch power from the top of the ip. pretty easy to install- there were already holes in the frame. The only tricky part is you have to find an insert to stick inside of the plastic diesel lines to keep them from collapsing.

What is your fuel level in the active tank?

It could be your fuel pickup is busted and your pickup isn't submerged in the fuel in the tank.

When, (not if) your fuel pickup breaks, you will only be able to run down to about a 1/4 tank, then it's no longer submerged and will suck air and you will replace your lift pump and it won't fix your issue.

If your active tank is significantly over 1/4 tank, then it's more than likely your lift pump.

I just bought mine at NAPA, don't remember the price.

good point. I would make sure they are full just to be sure mine only goes to about 3/8s in one tank and half in the other.

I totally forgot about that, but last time i went to fill up the either tank only took like 3 gallons before the thing shut off saying its full, when i shake the truck i can hear fuel sloshin around in there, but for some reason the fuel gauge reads WAY over full on both tanks so im thinkin the senders might be bad...

So today i went and checked the pickup in the front tank and everything looks like it should and the tank is almost overflowing it has so much fuel in it, so im thinking the lift pump is to blame now
