Hi!
I'm Travis and I just picked up my first diesel, it's a 1987 4WD F-350 Crew Cab Long Bed, 6.9 IDI.

I'm learning to work on it, luckily it already runs fairly well, just needs some suspension work (sounds like a wheel bearing wouldn't hurt much either). But eventually I'd like to do a full rebuild on it. I can't wait to learn from all the years of experience on here. Hopefully someday I can contribute as well!

Thank you! Once I fix the suspension I'm gonna be using her for logging.
Yours looks vicious as hell! I like the third row of doors!
I just wanna do a rebuild under the hood eventually. Maybe put a gear vendor and maybe a turbo on it.

Too Purdy to use for logging. You need a beater. Lol
That's a obs front end on it.

Thank you! But I figure she looks that good at 29 years old, she's had enough rest, time for work!

What's obs mean? And how can you tell?

OBS= Old Body Style.
referred to from the early style powerstroke.
1983-1986 = Bull nose
1987-1991 = Brick nose
1992-1997 = OBS
IDI diesels
1983-1987 = 6.9 IDI
1988-1992.5 = 7.3 IDI N/A
1992.5/1993-1994.5 = 7.3 IDI some were turbo
we know its an OBS because of the side markers. look at my side markers, completely different.

take a picture of your dash...

if youre planning on working this truck.
the very first thing you should do is to get some real steps and throw those aluminum things in the scrap pile.

WElcome to the forum. Can you tell us what trans you have and what the mileage is on the truck. May not need a rebuild yyet but maybe just a fuel system upgrade. Adding a turbo really wakes up these engines.
Very nice looking rig for it to become a "working logging truck"...

It's at _68K, the carfax has some differing information on the mileage, one says it should be 268K, then a later entry says it's only at 168K. It has a manual 4 Speed, I'm not sure which specific transmission that would be. And thanks again, but I traded my old working truck in for it. Used to have an '08 F150. I wanted a long bed and a manual transmission on an older diesel, I found this one by mistake actually, I was looking for an early-mid 90's 7.3, but I'm plenty happy with this find. I fully plan on keeping her running like the beast she is, for years to come.
