which center section whould you go with?

in the middle of dealing with my rear diff,
i noticed some pitting on the R&P
some claim that they will last a while like this,
but i am going to build a new rear diff.
im going to do outer bearings and seals for S&G right now.
but the rear diff is in dire need of a positive traction unit.

so the question is... which one should i go with, and why?

ive done an auburn set up before on a 8.2" diff, and its been tough..

I would go with a locker. I put a Detroit locker in a 1 ton PSD dump truck and owner has no complaints and it ALWAYS works.

if you really want a limited slip I guess I would pick the tru-trac

no locker for my daily driver.
I have no problem with putting them in a hotrod or a cruiser, but I don't like the feel of it in my daily.
plus, it beats everything to hell.
sure these diff's are stout, but im building this thing for the long haul.

Bronco has a detroit locker in it. That diff spent about 4 years as a daily driver in the black truck. Its nice to know it will always work and take a beating.

My PSD has a truetrac limited slip. I like the ease of turning with those units and they usually kick in after one complete tire rotation.

There are other options as well. Air lockers, electric lockers etc. The problem with those is there is more stuff to run in order to control the locker.

If it was my project, and it was a daily driver, that won't see much off road, then I would go with the limited slip option.

I put a tru-trac in the front axel of my 76 scout and have had good luck. my dad has a eaton limited slip in his 2500 and it is ok but no grantee it will get you off the ice.

Personally I've done lunchbox lockers before and don't mind them, but when I put a locker in my IDI I'll want to swap to long pinion gears so I'll go to a new carrier. Torn between Detroit or Yukon Grizzly. I would not do a posi. Too heavy of a vehicle to last, I've had TrakLocs before and they wear out quick. Mine is a daily driver and rarely sees the woods anymore but I get sick of locking the hubs at the boat ramp. It's not too harsh, you're too soft. :D

If you want better than an open diff but not a full locker I'd do the trutrack. My plan is to run one of those up front.

TrueTrac.

Very impressive in my F250 for the last 10 years. Works better than an LS I've had before. Much more like a Detroit when engaged, forgiving on the road like a LS when not. No special air lines, wires, and my favorite... no goofy "friction modifier" needed in the gear oil.
