Well it looks like it might be a good time to upgrade my semi float axle for reasons....lol

I pulled out the assembly yesterday and opened the housing up. Everything for the most part looked good with an initial inspection but I did get some water in the housing. This is the worst section, the rest is just some small rust spots at most. I cleaned it up with a wire wheel. Do you guys think this is good enough to run?

It will run for awhile but will probably be a little noisy.

A little background on the engine swap and axle assembly if people are interested.

What do you mean "keep it close" keep it close to home? I could pull my gears from the truck and drop them in this housing if I needed to.

then i would swap em, yea keep it close to home.
it may last, it may not.
if you got the parts, i say swap em.
but if the ring gear is ate up odds are the pinion is too.

As an alternative, can I put the full float spindles on my semi float axle housing? Or is the full float spindles and housing all one piece?

Edit never mind, I found out the spindles are welded on.

It will run a very long time. Until you hear it tick while driving you are OK. Remember, one tooth never carries all the load. I've ran much worse.

If these were the LAST set available or I walk.. Then yes, I would tell you to run them. As Russ posted. No one gear tooth carries the complete load. But this will eventually go bad. Its a matter of time.

Sometimes it's good to have an old work car.

Gosh me and another good size guy just slid a 10.25 and a D60 from one truck bed to another tonight and I thought that was work. Gettin one up into the trunk and back seat of a car with seat belts as handles sounds ROUGH!

Funny part is nothing was really wrong with the car before we started working, he just need to get the back of the truck up to work under.

A off road fork truck helped load and I have my lift at home to unlooad.
