ive had this in the back of my mind since i got into diesels.

i have 1 more build to do before i start looking at buying another truck.

thoughts are to have a 99-02 single cab short bed.

but the OBS's im quite fond of also.

ive been bouncing back and fourth on if i should modify a 4 wd or just use good ole RWD.

this truck will be highly modified.

if i go 4wd, i will have to do a complete chassis.
chrome moly tubing.
with a monstrous Z in the front and the rear.

i want ground clearance to be no more than 6"

for all you christmas tree jumpers, whats your thoughts?

I'm sure you want to go more "off the beaten path", but I always thought that the OBS Lightning was a pretty cool 2WD starting point for a very cool straight line street truck. Bearing in mind that you can get a single cab short box OBS stuff pretty cheap and easy, I think a twin turbo diesel "Lightning Knock Off" super low and maybe suede/flat paint versus a shiny red or shiny black would be pretty awesome.

Just my .02 worth, but I like the brainstorming ;Sweet

i was hoping to catch your eye lol

as ive been running jalopys down the strip for only about 10 years, the fastest ET ive had was a 13.1
mostly at nostalgia runs with my 30 olds.
never been real competitive, just there to have fun.

my dream is to have a fully caged and tube chassis.
all built to NHRA specs. yet still driveable on the street.

even if i have to sacrifice the street use, i still want to build a gnarly truck thats on the other end of the spectrum of my 87 and 01

Chuck the 4x4 idea, to much parasitic loss.
Although there is a66-70 shortbox chevy 4x in town that pulls 11'a at sears point.
A frame built to maximize weight transfer( and incorporate mad sway control) would be cool.
Thinking short box , what about an extra cab on short bow wheelbase? Sorta like them sport track things.

sitting side-by-side, the rotational mass of a IH (idi or psd) is larger than a GM 6.2/6.5.
i know where a stupid fast 6.5td in a 2wd C20 all steel wrapper is hiding at if you want to lay money down to see how stupid fast it is :D

I'd probably skip the 7.3. To get good power out of it, takes a lot of money. JMHO

Mine was doing 450hp to the wheels in a crew cab dually pickup running 15.0 in the 1/4 while spinning tires.my setup in a little 2wd short bed woulda been nuts.

All i had for work was intercooled, chip, injectors, stealth hpop, and fuel system.

this engine will be fully built starting with the internals.
Carrillo rods, satelite valves, tool steel head studs.
and on, and on, and on.....

HEUI injection system is just not a good platform to start with for a high HP build. Anything past 450whp takes a lot of money. I'm not saying not to, I'm just saying it might be much cheaper to go another route. But, if your cool with spending the cash then go for it!
