So, I have oil on the outside of my oil pan that appears to be coming down from the front of the pan and oil on the gear inspection Plate on my ZF5. It's not just a whole lot as it doesn't seem to be hitting the ground. Rear main seal?

Also, I use the Ford FL1995 filter and I can't seem to keep oil from seeping from the top of the filter. Is there some trick I'm missing. This is the second filter I've had this issue with.

Double check the valley for fuel leaks.
Far as the filter, when tightening it go tighter, than turn it back a hair.

I tightened it more but didn't go back.
Umm, what's the change interval on the fuel filter?

sorry jasper, i disagree 100 % on "going back on the filter" comment.
its a rubber seal. if done correct, it should not leak.

everyone has different methods on how to treat your oil filter.
myself, i always clean the filter housing off.
making sure there are no dings. or marks, or gasket from the previous filter.

pull new filter out, fill it 1/2 way with oil, put your finger in the hole(even tho it does not have hair around it)
and apply some oil on the rubber gasket.
then by hand, tighten it as much as you can.
if youre feeling a little feminine, you can use a wrench for a 1/4 turn.

ive only had 1 filter leak on me ever. on my boat.
i left the o-ring on from the previous filter.
revved it up to 7000, and oil everywhere..lol
had to take a bath in 409.

That's something a member here recommended. Think it was Al. I started doing it with all filters, haven't had a seep since, and also won't cause trouble on the next change. Can do it by hand.

i was out of the boat, with it running, i was working the throttle at the carb by hand, looking at the oil filter at the moment of explosion... it was fcukn funny

Yup. Was just my experience with it. Personally, I hate dealing with stuck on filters from being over tightened. Lol
Another thing is to make sure its coming from the filter and not the oil cooler itself. Or maybe valve cover.

The oil cooler is seeping as well, but it appears to be coming from just one place on the filter and running straight down. May be coming from the oil cooler, in fact.

I'm much more concerned with the oil transmission inspection plate/ oil pan.

Definitely start up top. The damn filter restriction sensors on these things leak more often than cps go out. Then you have the fuel bowl drain valve. And the fuel pump itself.

I've redone the fuel bowl, fuel lines, and fuel pump.
My up pipes are leaking, but I don't reckon any oil would come from there.
I also think my boots on the "Y" pipe are leaking, or wet anyways.
I'll start looking from the top down.

Hell no, I want my truck to last! I would only use that stuff on something I was limping in its last leg and didn't care for.

I need to get my engine cleaned up and inspected, but as of now I haven't any money to do anything. I definitely have oil seeping in multiple places but no significant leaks. I don't loose any noticeable amount of oil and the ground under the truck is always dry. I always look at, around, and under my truck every time I walk up to it.

I was thinking you did when you got it.
At least in the valley is easy. Should be bone dry. Mine is finally getting there after going efuel and getting rid of the stuff in the valley. Had a slight leak on a fitting, but now it's good.
Y pipes looking wet could just be "normal" from the ccv system.

Well, the oil cooler is definitely my main culprit for oil seepage. It's actually worse at the front of the tube. I'm not excited about dealing with that.
Turbo has some minor seepage as well. I'm hoping to put that off until I'm on position to upgrade to bellowed up-pipe, EBPV delete pedestal, and early 99 turbo.
