my oah my how gears change.
and my savings is drained!
i just picked up a project that i could have not pass up!
all my life, ive wanted a big boat.
i have grown up around small boats all my life and my jaw always dropped when i see one of these bad boys fly by.
i currently have 4 small v-drive flat bottoms, and a 26' jet boat.
i will be selling most of these off.

the new one is a heavy lay 10 M 1991 Predator.(33' off shore)
it was set up with twin bow tie 502's and bravo 1 outdrives.
picked up for pennys on the dollar!!!
now some of you are into boats, some have never been on one.
this is a LONG TERM project. but i wanted to share with you guys!
the plan is to use 2 97 7.3 powerstrokes.
sure they dont rev too high but with the correct gearing in the drives, and proper screws,
it has the potential to be something vicious!!!
the boat will be here pretty soon. after the previous owner tears out the engines, drives, and trim plates.

Cool project. How does the weight of a PSD compare to the BBC? Probably a little heavy given that the 502's probably had aluminum heads. I used to love to go picnic at the park on the lake in Nashville and listen to the big boats idle by and take off. It was almost like being at the drag strip except the wife was happy. :D

I can't imagine feeding twin 502's for a day on the water. That would be a C note or three.

You know, the RPM ranges probably aren't as disparaging as you would think. I've never had or driven a BBC powered boat but I suspect they don't cruise much over 3000-3500. PSD likes to rev a little more than most diesels (cough... cummins... cough). That would be about the top of a PSD but on the BBC you could probably double that if its built correctly but again, would you want to feed it. :dunno

:popcorn

lets say a C-note buys you 25 gallons @ 4 dollars a gallon. i dont know anyone that would run 87 octane.lol
this thing has twin 100 gallon tanks!
you know what BOAT stands for, right?
BUST OUT ANOTHER THOUSAND!!!
the great thing is, i dont have to use #2 diesel ;)
since it will never run "ON ROAD" LOL

the person i bought this boat from is one of my close friends, we have built several projects together
he bought this boat for the engines and drives to throw into his 42 foot fountain off shore that he purchased super cheap without engines and drives.
if youve seen my boating pics that i have posted, all of the "bad ass" boats next to my crummy lill 75 mph boat are his.
we discussed this in depth. the bowtie 502's are all cast iron pigs.
a fully dressed 454 without exhaust weighs in at 650 lbs.
with marine exhaust and pnumatic dumps, the exhaust alone weighs in at 100 lbs per side
which increases each engine to 850 pounds.
a T444E weighs in at 920 pounds dry.
so the weight difference of the engines is miniscule!
i will have to make a plaque saying " no fat chicks" :D
i currently have 2 97 7.3's bone stock. i have one thats stripped down to the heads that i will use for mock up.
i am on the hunt for another so that i dont have to throw my MANchero on the back burner.
good thing is, these engines you can get for pretty cheap.
even if i get an oddball year, i can throw that one in the 63 and have 2 matching blue label 7.3's

SO STOKED!!!
i need to build a windsheild for it tho.
ill have pics of the cabin and interior later today.
were gonna take her for a run!

i almost wanna sell my 98 E350 or just yank the engine out lol

Wow. That is a neat idea. ;Sweet
What is your plan for this boat? Are you going to just cruise around on the water or do you plan on towing skiers?

towing skiers?
:rotflmao
no sir, thats what the little boats are for.
the turning radius of this boat can be compared to that 6 door OBS that was posted some time ago with an 11 foot bed lol

this is for taking the family out, setting anchor on the east side of the Golden Gate bridge and watching the sunset over it!
following the coast line for hours.
poker runs,
4th of july they have some spectacular firework shows over the Sacramento Delta.
finding a spot way anchor, mix up a batch of margritas without the mix, and spending the night.

Damn that is a sweet idea, but you might want to think up a new name while it's in drydock. That boat will plane right NOW with all that torque. Twin 7.3 turbos should increase your range way above the bbc's as well, I bet close to double the range cruising at 2k. I miss those sunsets at golden gate, but not enough to put up with all the bs that came with it. Looking froward to this project taking shape man.

i think the new name will be "strokin'"
maybe "stroke of luck"
because thats what it is, a deal of the century that i was lucky to have picked up.
im still waiting for my buddy to yank the drivetrains out.

my plan is to wrap the boat up in a winter plastic coat and store it at my parents until i can get the engines done.
i may end up buying another set of engines. i dont know yet, it would be nice to have a PSD mock up block for the install

i need to really hustle this year. im so close to having my dream boat i can taste it, but i am not going to mess with used engines. both will be machined to the same exact specs before i attempt instal.

im really worried about the TPS leads which will be really long to reach the helm.
one way or another. i will be spending every last damn coin i have on this project
... right after my 87 is complete....

SHWEET! what are you going to use for out drives? merc drives like you buddy had? That is going to be one cool ass boat looking forward to seeing how you pull this off. Separate gem modules I guess you could mount them near the engines to keep your cps wiring shorter. The throttle is going to be a tough one but this is fly by wire stuff I am sure there is a good way to get it done. Man I need a boat:rotflmao

the plan is to run a set of merc's bravo 3's
they sell a 1.85% overdrive case that i think will fit the bill nicely!
and then with twin props per drive, i think ill be close to the 65 nmph range.
lots and lots of stainless work ahead of me!!!
double walled water cooled headers i think is the ticket to keep the engine bay cool.
same with the down pipe, errrr... would it still be a down pipe if it goes up??? lol
first thing is to take some plywood and close up the drive transom holes, and then get a good cover on it, shes gonna be sitting a while.

AWESOME ;Sweet

Just curious, do you know what the hull speed is?

Also, was there never a windshield, or was it removed?

I'm looking forward to seeing how this goes -Drool ;Sweet I'v ebeen playing on boats since I was 12 years old, but never gone faster than 15 knots or so on the water...I might have to beg for a ride after you've got her seaworthy :D

the PO to the guy that stripped it said he's had it to 85 mph.
so 75 knots.
with twin bowtie 502's
and 1.5 gears
not sure on the pitch of the props, i really need to find that out.
altho my pitch will vary slightly due to the drivetrain swap.
im hoping for a 50 knot target at cruising speeds of 2500ish.
plan is to mock the psd's up with the gimble, and a drive of the same physical specs of the bravo 3.
gimbles will have to be modified for the PSD, i have no lines on PSD marine parts as of yet.
this dream finally became a hard reality now that i have the paperwork in my hands.
ill take a trip to DMV tuesday morning and register it.

the vessle never had a windsheild, but i will be installing one.
all in due time!
pretty damn stoked. altho i may be selling a few things...
time to hit the swap meets hard this summer!
