for the next couple of weeks, i am gearing up to do some major mods on my 87.

ive always wanted to do this, but now i have a reason for it.

im going to be cutting the rear portion off of my 87, and adding the rear crew cab section from a 89 CC on to it.

i have a crew of 6 thats ready to help me slam this project out.
scheduled for the 20th of this month.

has anyone seen build threads of a project like this?

i am no stranger to custom metal work, i do custom chassis fabrication as a hobby.
sheet metal isnt so different.

all suggestions are welcome.

here is my plan of attack:

1) cutting out the complete floor so i dont have to deal with it right now.
i can replace this once i get all of the pillars welded in and decide later where i do my finish cutting.

2) i am undecided if i want to cut the entire roof off of the donar truck, to make this a bit easier.- most likely is what will happen.

3) cutting the rear portion off at the last line inside of the door frame, i may even go as far as cutting the latch off so i can use the donar pillar.

4) cutting the donar truck foward of the front door this will be a rough cut to get a final position for the final cut once i take the carcus and set this on the back of the frame.

hopefully this will be pretty straight foward.
its all going to be done with the 87 on the frame.
wheel base will not change.
bed will be chopped and shortened, i hate to see my long bed go, but at this time in my life i need the cab room.
my goal is to have a 6 door vehicle for under a grand without the purchase of th two trucks.

Sounds similar to me wanting to add a Bronco rear section to a supercab I have here for a slightly bigger bronco...

I posted pictures of just one of those. There was a company that used to do that..... I think it was Centurion...... I would love to have this truck. A family got out of it..... at least 1 person from each door, maybe 2 from a couple....

Wow, crossing into limousine territory, might need a chauffeur license!

Here is another variation, which I posted here a while ago. It's an extended Excursion.

Don't know why it comes out upside down when I post it. It's right side up on my computer. However, you can get the idea, and if you really want, you can turn it over.:D

pretty much, but i will have an extra short bed.
i do not want to change the wheel base.
the main reason for this is by july, i will have 4 kids.

my woman is excited for this too, well she shows excitment, but i know in her head, shes rolling her eyes.

that one will be a little more expensive.

the biggest down fall i see with this, is that i will have to buy another truck so i will always have a long bed...
damn the bad luck, right?

I have been wanting to do this for awhile now, but my plan is to add supercab to the back of the crew in the same wheel base. I plan on building a flatbed, to make up for the lost bed space (slightly wider, with tall side boards, but no longer than frame).

this is going to be my travel rig.
i have no need for a flatbed, the shortshort bed will get a custom camper shell on it, perfect for the dogs and the "hardware"

if i can get you folk to buy parts off of the donar truck, i can buy more of said "hardware" :)

Do you know how much work suicide doors will be? Not to mention the cost of the proper latches!
Maybe later in life. But not now.
If that ever gets done, I will eliminate the post.
That's the only way to do it.
This round will soley be to add another set of doors.
Nothing too fancy. Just functionality.
I have 4 months to get this rig done. Painted and ready for my newborns.

Well today is a wash. Literally! No 3 phase power in my shop, so no work.
Spent the morning getting soaked and getting the cab off the f350 frame.
Now it's ready for some bracing and getting chopped up.

FYI there's no special "chauffeur license" in California...you technically need a Class B commercial license with passenger endorsement if the vehicle is capable of carrying more than 10 people, but it sounds like this truck's going to be a 9 seater, and I think that law's only really enforced if the vehicle's being driven commercially (given how many 15 pax vans you see in private hands)...

Intersting concept! I think I would extend the frame before cutting the bed short, but that's just me...

This truck is a pain in the rear getting in and out of parking spots as it is lol
Adding another 3 feet to it, would defeat the efforts of having a
Everyday, 9 passenger vehicle.
You're right, to each their own.
Plus we've already seen one with the frame extended. I can't be like the next guy :)
