I am going to be test driving a 93 K3500 and the owner states that he installed a new mil. spec 6.5 engine from a hummer, purchased on ebay. I've heard good things about the AM General version of the 6.5, and if this one has 10,000 miles on it I think it will suit me just fine. My question is:

1. Any quick way to identify whether the new motor is in fact an AMG Optimizer 6500?
2. Has anyone ever heard of "counterfeit" 6.5 motors for sale on Ebay? I have and would hate to get one.

Thanks

the castings are by IH/Navistar. Look for the logo. Also, in the V-valley, there should be three casting ridges that run front to back. those are the passages for the oil cooling jet feed.

Should have a navistar symbol in the valley. Otherwise check the casting # near the bell housing behind the pass side head.
