Just a teaser. My IDI runs so well I don't have the heart to pull it yet. Just acquired 2 DTA360 engines, a 1991 185HP and 1992 190HP. The plan is to get the adaptor plate to bolt it to my ZF5 and just tweak the pump a little.

Picking them up:

Also grabbed a 1956 IH S-120, towed the whole load 10 hours back to PA with the ol' IDI. did flawless towing about 18K lbs.

Drool!

You must have got a great deal on everything to make that drive and I am super jealous they fired up that easy. Will definitely be following this. ;Sweet

Got a gooseneck setup to use my trailer and hauled 6 scouts for a friend. Last good tow and truck did amazing. Even with the idi.

Didn't want to split the trans open but this gouge in the "quill" as Ford calls it needed to be fixed. Unfortunately it was impossible to repair add it's only sheetmetal. I was able to source one directly through ZF.

Wasn't so bad, close inspection shows it must have been rebuilt. The bearings are spotless and the syncros show no wear at all.

Corrosion cracked the tail housing. Luckily my friend had an aluminum welder I could use and I fixed it.

Figured to eliminate the spring wrap and take out the blocks I'll rebuild the spring packs and install a SKY shackle flip and "6 inch lift". Only lifted my truck 1-3/4 as I was using it to remove the blocks I had, which in turn picked it up just right with the RSK. Was perfectly level before.

This July 4th weekend I have 4 days off. Should be able to slam out some work. Goal is to tow 2 vehicles to Carlisle all truck nationals DT powered.

How was the process of pulling the gears out of the ZF? IIRC, a transmission rebuilder once told me you have to heat the case to split it because the tolerances are so tight.

Awesome!!!! Keep at it and take lots and lots of pictures. You will never know when you need to look at something at a later date. I did my cummins swap in a three day weekend. It was tough but I got it done.

Some wiring cleanup. Lots of extra junk with the E4ohno that lived in the truck.

I like the dual battery tray idea. I've contemplated doing that to mine but just on the pass side under hood. Will it give you enough room to run Group 31's? Being that it's a brick nose truck, I'd be tempted to just toss the wiring and start over. So what are you going to do about a fan? Your definition of roomy and mine are pretty different. :D

Will the engine/mounts take place of the crossmember, like in a bigger truck? Or are you going to replace the crossmember around the engine?
