I am surprised no one mentioned this. You got your plugs out fine and that's great!!

The reason why we say Motorcraft/beru plugs only is the time that they last over other brands. But this is not the only reason.

Inferior brands have been known to burn out prematurely...then the tips swell up inside the head. It's a tight fit as it is, so when the tips swell up, they break off. Some people are lucky enough to get them out by pulling the injector, but most times the head needs to come off to get at them.

As far as starting an engine with burned up GP's....get yourself a can of brake cleaner. Ether will work, but you have to know when enough is enough. You can ether lock that motor, burn holes in pistons, premature wear on piston rings, valves etc. Ether is a "dry" starting aid...******* things in that combustion chamber.

Just to straighten it out, there is no afterglow on these things, that type of system didn't come about till much more recently. Our system sesnses the internal resistance of the GP which changes as it heats up. When it heats up to near where it is ready to fire, the controller begins to cycle the power off and back on until the internal resistance reaches the point where the controller no longer finds it needs to turn it back on any more. If you have one burned out GP, it doesn't mess up the feedback reading too bad to the controller and it will usually continue to function, but if you have 2 or more burned out GPS the resistance readings are cumulative and it fakes the feedback sensor in the controller out and makes it think that your GPs have already heated up so it short cycles them ( i.e. starts clicking quickly right when you turn the key ) and never heats the remaining plugs up, and this of course is if there is there is enough of the remaining plugs left to even heat up, as which in this case , all 8 were toast.
Now you know how it works for future reference.
