im goin to the dark side and gettin a gasser. this sucks. cause my mileage is going down from my cummins, but havin a truck i can do a diesel swap in next year is worth it in my eyes. but what gas mileage, unloaded, then towing about 10k a few times can i expect with the 460, vs the 5.4. if i grab that 460 im gonna do a swap, the 5.4, im not sure.

the guy i talked to said with the plow around town it was 10 and about 12 highway. our overloaded e150 van isnt much better with the 5.4. ill keep it for a year or so then throw the IDI or 12v cummins in there. btw i like your sig. you may be a redneck if you spent more on your truck than education. thats how its gotta go;Sweet:rotflmao

thanks thats how it is with both of my trucks cant you tell by my lack of spellin skills :rotflmao .:dunno i dont know of any mods that you can do to save gas just make more power and burn more. all i can say is try not to hot rod around all the time or youll watch the gas gauge go down as your tach needle goes up lol. if i was you i would just stick with the diesel. ill fill my 460 powered f350 up on monday and usaully have to fill it thursday night maybe friday and i have a 19 gallon tank and with regualer gas its about $50 to fill it and it dont last long. it may cost more but i can fill my 92 idi and have it last till the next monday if not longer it just depends on how i feel like drivin it that day

Used to have an 88 F-SuperDuty with the 460, got 16mpg.
Used to have a 97 F150 with the 5.4, It could get 18 on the freeway, as soon as it smelled a stop sign or light it dropped to 15-16.
Currently have an 05 F250 with the 5.4 (my fathers truck) 12-12.5 empty or loaded, in the woods in 4 low or on the freeway with the hubs unlocked. Speed doesn't seem to affect it either, burn a tank going 60-65 then the next tank got below 80mph for 10 miles. Still the same fuel economy.

huh. well idk what im gonna do yet. i cant realy stick with the diesel because she needs bodywork and i dont have the money to do it. the 460 is in better shape and by this time next year i should have all the $ saved plus. to do my diesel swap. so i figure i can go that route. either with the 5.4 or the 7.5 460. i dont know yet. either way ill be pullin about 2500 lbs of landscape stuff around with a toolbox in the back. ill lean toward the 460 for now. the mileage is about the same. but a little extra go fast wont hurt

if your planning an engine swap down the road get the truck with the 460. the trk with the 5.4 is going to have a lot more electrical to deal with in the swap.

.

Come on? really? quit F'n w the guy.

a 460 will get between 6-15mpg

My crewcab 460 5spd 3:55 gear truck doing a 500 mile highway trip from NJ to VA w the cruise set at 65 w 33" tires got an all time high of..........13mpg

There is no way in hell a 8k F-superduty w dual wheels and 4:88 or 5:13 gears would get 16, unless it was in neutral getting pulled

still callin BS.a 460 with 4.10s is around 3500RPM at 60MPH.my first f350 car carrier was a 460,5 speed,4.10s and i was pushing it well past its comfort zone at 65MPH.runnin 70 with 4.63s would kill a 460 quick.no Fin way you got 16MPG out of a 460.my 88 f350 crew cab dually EFI 460,5 speed and 4.10s was gettin a max of around 10-11 MPG

8-10 out of my C 350 with a 460, at 15,200# or at 6,000#. E40D, or NP435.

10 out of the 98 Expedition 5.4 towing a 20' 1972 Kit Prowler, 14 ish running 75 Bpoise to SLC.

12 as a drivearound truck on the Expy

Have a friend, two 460's. 89 ZF5 C 350, 4.10's 35" ires, 17 mpg highway, 12~ in town. 94 C 350 ZF5 3.54's 12 empty, 10 towing. use to do 14/12. Same truck with a PSD 75hp over, E40D, 35"-40" tires (had a superlift electronic re-calibration goodie hard wired), 14-16, 4.10 gears.

You wanna check your math?
3500/.76=4605.26316
4605.2316/4.10=1123.23492
11.23.23492x100.53=112918.80651
112918.80651/12=9409.90054
9409.90054/5280=1.78218
1.78218x60=106.9308
So a ZF5 equipped 460 running 3500rpm and a 32" tire, in 5th is going 106.9 miles per hour, not 60, with 4.10 and in OD it's going to be turning roughly 2000 at 60, just like an IDI.
Now lets figure out what the 460 runnin the ZF5 and 4.63 is turning at 75
75/60=1.25
1.25x5280=6600
6600x12=79200
79200/100.53=787.82453
787.82453x4.63=3647.62757
3647.62757x.76=2772.19695
Well within the comfort zone for a gas engine that will scream past 5000
Hell my IDI has run that kind of RPM for over an hour straight that I know of.

If you are running a 32" tire and a ZF5 (in 5th) turning 3500rpm at 60mph that would mean you had 7.30 gears.

SuperDuty12v: I apologize to you for the hijack.
