I currently have 245-75R-16 tires on the truck now. The door tag says stock tires are 235-75R-16. What larger size tires are an option while using the stock rims and still have enough room to clear without rubbing in the front when turning ?? Obviously using stock rims I have to stay with a 16 inch tire but how much wider could one go with out causing interference with the brake lines or inner fender well ? Truck is a 4X4.

Thanks

i would like to add to your question and im not trying to jack the thread but can i use 16" wheels on my 89 f 350 4x4 with the d 60 front instead of the 16.5" wheels?

on my old 89 f250 4x4 i had 285/75/16's on it. ther were just about the same as a 33x12.50

Did you have any rubbing or clearance issues with the 285's ??

Ive got an 89 f250 and it has 16 in rims. Im running 305-75-16's and there is no rubbing. Im sure you could go wider and maybe a smidge taller. When it comes to the f350, the 16s will fir just fine, the stock rim size is generally a 16, and the rotors and outer hardware from a 4x4 250 is the same as a dana 60.

Keith-

I've got 285's on mine, but I had to add an add-a-leaf to mine to make sure they cleared the bumper. Mine are on factory 16x7 alcoa's

235/85-16 should work without a fuss. That's what I have on my truck and I know of a number of folks with F250s with the same size

Um, thats a good questions. There wagon wheels from a 79 dodge powerwagon so im not really sure. Ill have to take a look in the morning and get back to ya. I dont have any rubbing but if I hit a big enough hole my front drivers tire hits my pa speaker thats mounted on the bumper, oops!

Thanks for the info everyone... Sounds like I should probably stay with a 265-75R-16 or less to stay away from any clearance issues.

Ryan,

If time permits, hopefully you can take a look at it sometime this weekend. I don't know if you remember from looking at it before but it doesn't have the stock bumper on the front so that might not be a problem for me. Got a few other decisions to make before I get to that point any way.

Thanks, Keith

You can always space the front bumper out a little, I think it's just 4 bolts.

I have been running 285 75 16s on my truck on stock wheels with no rubbing at all. I do have an add-a-leaf in the front, and they did rub slightly only in reverse on the lower edge of the bumper prior to the add-a-leaf.

I have a set of 315s that I have mounted on a set of American Racing wheels which are an inch wider than stock. I had to push the bumper up and out (I have a 2" body lift, which by the way makes even the 285s look a lot better IMHO), but I have absoluted no rub whatsoever in my test runs. I can and will be happy to note what my backspacing is on my wheels if anybody needs to info, but I would say if you are looking for the biggest wheel on a stock Alcoa for your 1992 F250, 285 75 16s make lots of sense.

I ran 285's on stock rims on my 89 f250 and they would only rub on my running boards sometimes. I currently run 265's and I really like them.

i mostly run my 285/75/16 buckshot mudders, whiich is a 33 inch tire, even with them it looks like of i trimmed my bumper a little bit i could put th 315-75-16 which is a 35 inch tire. right now since i been towing so darn much i put the 265-75-16 back on the truck casue they help me when i get to the mountains
