I think I am going to get the kit AND the timing light. I'll try it with the probe and with the light and see which is easiest for me.

Once timed ,recheck a few time and look for timing creep.
i'm thinking the higher pop pressure is regarding the timing and or the ip is shot...
have you gotten it "hot and sweaty" lately?
