    Front differential drip

I took the bolt out, cleaned it up and applied RTV to the threads and reassembled. As Nero said, the threaded holes are blind - no oil loss. It was a piddling leak, maybe two drops per week, but Maine state safety inspections are getting tougher and cover issues completely unrelated to safety.

    Front differential drip

State safety inspection coming up this week and anticipating 2 drops per week from the front differential housing might be a "safety" issue in Maine that could cause the truck to fail its annual inspection. I cleaned up the housing and the leak appears to be coming from the bolt at the 4:00...

    Dash lights

A trailer with non LED running lights will shorten the life of a headlight switch and connecting wires too.

Oil Pressure Gauge reading way low

Same thing happened to my '93. I screwed in a ford pressure sensor (from a different ford engine) and jumped the resistor in the instrument cluster - should have done it years ago.

The rear tank doesn’t like to take fuel

I've owned my 1993 F250 since new and it's never had any slow fill issues. I can't stick the nozzle in either fuel door and walk away but I can fill either tank quickly by holding the nozzle so it's about 3" in and the fuel stream aligns with the fill tube. Truck stop nozzles are a little more...

Another good reason to stay out of Calif.

It's probably the same everywhere but look at old photos of landscapes of the late 1800's - 1920's... There are very few trees - most were harvested for fuel or agricultural operations. Converting to oil changed all that. Now there are plenty of trees - all converting carbon dioxide into oxygen...

Another good reason to stay out of Calif.

True capitalism encourages innovation, competition, lower prices, better products. Capitalism fails miserably pushing products that people don't want to buy.

Another good reason to stay out of Calif.

Back in the 1950's diesel trucks often belched black smoke to the point of sooting up the trailer the tractor was towing. Since then turbochargers, fuel management, tighter clearances, better transmissions have all but eliminated visible emissions. Same with cars... 2 speed autos, open crankcase...

So what did you do with your truck today?

I took the plow off the truck today and took the truck for a ride. Last year I had electrical issues, transmission issues, leaking return line issues, leaking water pump issues, instrument cluster issues on my well maintained 30 year old pickup I bought new for $25,000. Issue by issue, with help...

    Timing related to cold starts

The condition of the starter makes a huge difference too. I did all the injectors, pump, and all glow plugs were good but still had cold starting problems. The original starter turned the engine over but not fast enough. A new DB inexpensive starter made all the difference.

Anti Cavitation test strips and bottles where to get these days?

Good to know about the Moly tab, Cant Write... that I did not know.

Finding the correct Starter relay for 86 IDI 6.9

Derek Bieri (Vicegrip Garage, YouTube) calls these solenoids the steal me option. They've been on Ford vehicles and tractors for years. Either one should work fine. The ign. terminal triggers the heavier terminals to close.

Glow plugs heat at hot start

Mine's always done that since new. If the motor is at normal operating or in the ballpark I start it without waiting. The glow plugs cycle a few times by design.

Shop near Yuma AZ? bad water pump

When the truck and I were younger I could back off the fan assembly with large channel locks. Over the years the truck grew more stubborn and I grew weaker. Last September I rented a kit from NAPA - no charge when returned.

    Max safe sustainable RPM

I always drive in OD like the manual recommends - unless the transmission is hunting - which I try to avoid by backing off the accelerator when the hill is steep.
